Official rules
Swinging for Scholarships 2026
Cabo del Sol Golf Course · October 24, 2026. Registering for the tournament implies acceptance of these rules.
Tournament format
Twosome scramble. A combined team handicap is calculated by adding 35% of the low player’s handicap plus 15% of the high player’s handicap.
If your team is not complete, you may be paired with the highest-handicap member of another team, or a player will be assigned to you. Please notify the organisation so your score can be considered.
Tee marks
| Handicap 0 to 7 | Gold tees |
| Handicap 8 to 36 | Blue tees |
| Ladies | Red tees |
Ties
In case of a tie, the winning team is decided on the last nine holes, then progressively the last six, the last three, and finally hole by hole starting from the 18th and working backward.
Hole in One and Closest to the Pin
Amateurs are eligible for all closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one contests. Golf professionals and amateurs under 18 years of age are not eligible to win the Hole in One contest.
A golfer can only win one special contest among closest to the pin, longest drive or precision drive. If a player marks more than one, they receive the best prize.
Rules
The tournament is played under USGA rules and the local rules of Cabo del Sol. If you have any doubt about a rule, the organisation will be happy to help.
It is important to have proof of your handicap and a registered GHIN in order to qualify for prizes. Without a registered handicap you need a letter from a golf instructor certifying your level of play.
Please keep the pace of play. In case of a clear modification of the scorecard by one of the players, the team may be disqualified and will not be able to earn a prize.
Teams must hole out on every hole — no gimmies. The maximum score per hole is double bogey.
Local rules — Cabo del Sol
Desert rule: if a ball comes to rest in the desert, it may be played as a red penalty area. The player may drop a ball within two club-lengths of the nearest point of grass relief, from the point the ball last crossed the margin of the penalty area and no nearer to the hole, with a one-stroke penalty.
Out of bounds is defined by boundary fences, the outside edges of roads, and lot lines.
Sprinkler heads within two club-lengths of the putting green: relief may be taken if and only if the ball lies within two club-lengths of the obstruction and it interferes with the line of play.
Abnormal ground conditions (Rule 16-1): nearest point of relief may be taken if the ball comes to rest on the edge of the turf (lip) that defines the desert and it interferes with lie, stance or intended swing. The same applies to any defined flower bed located inside the cart path bordering each hole.
Suspension of the tournament
In case of bad weather, the tournament may be suspended and results will be calculated with the number of holes played by most of the groups.
